Dorian van Rijsselberghe

Ambassador Plastic Soup Foundation

Since the summer of 2014, windsurfer and Olympic champion Dorian van Rijsselberghe has been an ambassador of the Plastic Soup Foundation (PSF). He is also a cofounder of Plastic Soup Junior, a platform where children are informed about plastic soup and can take action.

Dorian is deeply concerned about the condition of the oceans and therefore helps to raise awareness for plastic soup and join efforts with the PSF in fighting the problem. Dorian van Rijsselberghe “the way people carelessly throw (plastic) waste on the street or dump it into the water has to stop”.

Last year, the ambassador called for action to help clean the heavily polluted bay of Rio de Janeiro. Dutch companies are specialized in water and waste treatment management and can help. Dorian:

“The bay is one big pile of trash. Can’t the Dutch roll up their sleeves and help Brazil? For me, it is not about cleaning the water that will be used during the next Olympic Games, it is about tackling a major environmental problem.”

It is almost certain that Dorian will defend his Olympic title during the next Olympic Games of 2016. Hopefully in a clean bay of Rio de Janeiro.
