How ill are we becoming from plastic?
Enough is enough. This is the opinion of about 1,000 doctors and scientists that have united in the Surfing Medicine International association. “Since the end of the last century, indications that point to serious health risks associated with plastic are accumulating. They point to a strong increased chance of cancer, hormone disruptions, birth defects, obesity and failed immune systems,” says the Austrian board member and eye specialist Ognjen Markovic. “This is why we are raising the alarm. Further research is urgently needed. We cannot continue this any longer.”
To push for more research, Surfing Medicine International, together with the Plastic Soup Foundation, Wemos and Nudge sent an S.O.S to the world on August 28th, 2016.
Maria Westerbos, director of the Plastic Soup Foundation says “We are calling on doctors around the world to emphasize the need for more research by signing the petition on change.org/p/noplasticsinmybody. You can also sign if you are not a doctor, of course.”
