Measures to fight microplastic in Norway

The Norwegian consultancy Mepex describes in a new report about 50 measures to reduce microplastic emissions. The most cost efficient and feasible measures are assessed source by source. Primary sources are amongst others road traffic, paint, textiles and cosmetics, industrial pellet loss, or, for example, artificial turf from playing fields. A national plan is needed to combat microplastic pollution, the report says. The report is written for the Norwegian Environment Agency. Amongst the generic measures being proposed is a “legal clarification that microplastics should be considered an unwanted pollution and hence is regulated through the normal pollution laws”.
