MICROPLASTICS APPEAR TO PROMOTE DEMENTIA
New research on the effects of microplastics on humans and other mammals shows significant behavioral changes.
Every year, 2.8 billion single-use paper coffee cups are thrown away. The paper cups contain a thin layer of plastic making them waterproof and therefore difficult to recycle. The city of Freiburg has introduced a reusable coffee cup to go to tackle this mountain of waste: the ‘Freiburg Cup’.
This Freiburg Cup is on sale for 1 euro and can be handed in at any organization participating in the scheme. These shops, cafés and bakeries wash the cups and resell them with coffee.
The deposit system is a huge success and the number of participating organizations, originally 16, is growing. Other cities are considering introducing the Freiburg Cup or a similar system. Because there is no excuse for single use.
