Groundbreaking research shows Plastic penetrates our brain through the nose
A groundbreaking study by the University of Sao Paulo has shown for the first time how plastic can penetrate the human brain.
Amsterdam, 19 July 2017 – The Plastic Soup Foundation has received a cheque worth €15,735 from the ecological supermarket chain, Ekoplaza. This wonderful amount was the outcome of the LKKRDR savings campaign.
Between 10 May and 4 July, Ekoplaza customers could save for a €5 discount on their shopping. But they could also donate this amount to the Plastic Soup Foundation. Many customers chose this option. “We are proud of our customers’ social engagement. It is a wonderful amount and we are very happy with it,” said Hans van Mierlo, marketing manager at Ekoplaza.
The Plastic Soup Foundation can put this money to good use in its fight against the plastic soup. Eric Seleky, communications manager at the Plastic Soup Foundation, says “We are extremely happy with this donation. It will support our mission to make people aware of this worldwide problem. But it will mostly help us find ways to prevent plastic entering the environment, water and ultimately ending up in the ocean.”
Ekoplaza and the Plastic Soup Foundation have worked together for a while in battling plastic pollution. The organic supermarket is one of the Plastic Soup Foundation’s golden Business Angels and, in line with the motto ‘We are NO part of the plastic soup’, has taken several concrete steps to reduce the amount of plastic in its shops. For example, the supermarket does not have any plastic bags anymore, not even for sale. Instead, it has a large shopping bag made of recycled PET bottles. There is a €1 deposit on the bag to encourage people to return it so that it does not end up as litter. Besides this, the entire bread department is plastic free, no cosmetics containing microplastics are sold, and most of its house brand items are packed in biodegradable plastic.
