Glitter = Litter
Glitter seems fun and harmless, but these microplastics will remain in the environment forever.

On Saturday, May 16, our treasurer Dieter Croese died entirely unexpectedly. This is my farewell letter.
Hello Dieter,
Suddenly you’re gone. Gone forever. We can’t even say goodbye to you. Not even at your grave. That’s why I want to pay tribute to you and thank you for everything you have done for us.
When you became the treasurer of the Plastic Soup Foundation, we were still poor and inexperienced. Compared to the positions you occupied during your working life, where you were very high on the financial career ladder, we were nothing… Or an exceptional challenge. You decided to take it on and locked us into your heart.
After that, we made it very far together. Sometimes we argued with each other, especially when I didn’t understand you. And when you didn’t understand me. But we always came out the other side better. In the end, the Foundation grew incredibly well under your expert guidance, and we earned the CBF certificate. At the time of your death, we are at a point where we are financially healthy.
Dieter, I’m going to miss you.
The Plastic Soup Foundation is going to miss you.
You cherished life.
And we cherished each other.
From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for everything.
Maria Westerbos
Founder & Director of the Plastic Soup Foundation

After a decade of battle and debate, a European ban on intentionally added microplastics is forthcoming. A reflection on our campaign.
We eat, drink and breathe microplastics, nanoplastics and their additives and are thus exposed to the risks of these materials on a daily basis. Let’s make a wave!
Insect numbers are dramatically decreasing. Yet, microplastic pollution is rarely mentioned as a possible cause.
