As part of the shippersevent Water’rAnt the installation A Plastic Soupermarket by artistic duo Dirty Beach is exhibited in the Voormalig Havenhuis in Antwerpen. In Antwerp more than 5,400 tonnes of litter are collected annually. This costs the city 25 million a year. However, a large part of the landfill will disappear directly into the Schelde River via sewers, winds and watercourses. This will be right on our banks and finally on our plate. Mostly 60-80% of all waste at sea consists of plastic. Approximately 10 million tonnes worldwide, most of which are microplastics.
The city of Antwerp is doing its utmost to address these issues, but sensitization, cleaning up and enforcement are not enough.
During this event also the exibition A Plastic Soupermarket by Dirty Beach can be visited.
