Take action!

The plastic problem is so huge that it can easily make you feel discouraged. It almost seems too big to do anything about. But don’t forget that people are resourceful. You too can do much more than you think to help the oceans, the planet, and yourself!  So, take action and make a difference!

As a consumer

My Little Plastic Footprint

Plastic is everywhere. In our food, in the air, and in our water. There are strong indications that plastic and its toxic additives are bad for our health. If you would like to reduce your plastic footprint, then download the My Little Plastic Footprint app!

Beat the Microbead

From lipstick to sunscreen and beyond: micro- and nanoplastics are added to many personal care products. These microplastics, hardly visible to the naked eye, flow straight from the bathroom drain into the sewer system. Wastewater treatment plants are not designed to filter them out; that is how microplastics contribute to the ‘Plastic Soup’ swirling around in our oceans. However, there are cosmetic and personal care brands that are entirely free of any known plastic ingredients. You can be certain that the personal care products you use do not contain any plastic if you look out for our Zero Plastic Inside logo.

Trash Hunting

During a Trash Hunt, you clean up litter and record it with the help of the Litterati app. We use the recorded information from the app to map out the locations of the various kinds of litter. We then use this knowledge to remind producers and polluters of their responsibilities.

World Cleanup Day

World Cleanup Day is the biggest worldwide cleanup action of the year. Every year, Plastic Soup Foundation coordinates this day for the Netherlands.

On World Cleanup day we give the planet a big cleanup in cooperation with more than 180 countries. Our goal? To clean up as much litter as possible! And above all, to obtain valuable information about the origin and the type of waste that ends up polluting the environment. This information is vital finding finding lasting and sustainable solutions. The more we learn about the waste, the better we can work on finding solutions.

Last year, together with more than 15,000 people, we made the Netherlands a little cleaner and registered 77,000 waste items.

World Cleanup Day 2020 will take place on Saturday 19 September. Will you be taking part as well?

Sponsor actions

Are you a fanatical sportsperson? Creative? Student? Artist? Consider making your next game a sponsored match, donating the proceeds of a sale to the Plastic Soup Foundation, or organizing a donation-collection activity. Ocean rower Ralph Tuyn, runner Lotte Damen, and student association Osiris made activities like these happen.

Have a look at more examples and get started with your own event, or organize a crowdfunding effort, for example via Geef.nl or Facebook.

As an organization

Business Angels

Business Angels are companies that support the mission of The Plastic Soup Foundation: like us, they want to call a halt to plastic pollution. Business Angels support the Plastic Soup Foundation financially. Depending on the level of support, a Business Angel can achieve Gold, Silver, or Bronze status. Business Angels also pursue an active policy to reduce the use of (single-use) plastic in their business operations, and to reduce the leakage of plastic into the environment.

Plastic Footprint

Companies are increasingly looking for tools to deal with today’s plastic problems. The Plastic Soup Footprint helps organizations to experience what their level of knowledge is around plastic pollution; we help them think further about internal plastic policy, responsibilities, communication and collaboration within the production chain.
