  • The Netherlands impose a charge on the use of plastic bags.
  • According to the EU SUP Directive, EU members will have to ban single-use plastics from the market by mid-2021. This decision covers products such as cotton bud sticks, cutlery (forks, knives, spoons, and chopsticks), beverage stirrers, straws, plates (including paper plates with plastic lining), and many more.
  • As of July 1, 2021, there will be a minimum deposit of 15 cents on all plastic bottles sold in the Netherlands.
  • A deposit on cans will be introduced by December 31, 2022.
