How it started

In 2011, Maria Westerbos founded Plastic Soup Foundation at her kitchen table. What began as a personal mission has grown into one of the world’s leading organizations fighting plastic pollution.

Maria sounded the alarm on microplastics long before the world took notice. She combined science, awareness and activism. Under her leadership, PSF became a driving force behind research, campaigns and systemic change.

Robbert Meulenveld takes the lead

Since 2024, Robbert Meulenveld has been the director of Plastic Soup Foundation. With a background in strategic communication and social campaigns, he continues Maria’s mission: fighting plastic pollution and its impact on our health.
