Tonnes of invisible nanoplastics in the Wadden Sea
Pioneering research suggests the scale of invisible nanoplastics in the Wadden Sea, and points to the potential dangers for marine life.
Carl Plasschaert heard about the Talisker Whisky Ocean Challenge for the first time in January 2018. In December 2019, he will start as Team Maktub as a solo rower to cross the ocean. The Arabic word ‘Maktub’ stands for an adventure that has already been written. The protagonist in Paulo Coelho’s book ‘The Alchemist’, who chooses to take on the unknown adventure, is the motivation to be the first Belgian to make a solo trip across the ocean.
The challenge that starts in La Gomera, a Canarian island, ends in Antiqua in the Caribbean Sea. A 5,000 km trip across the North Atlantic Ocean that has to be done rowing and that starts every year in mid-December. Around 30 teams, including 7 solo rowers from all over the world, will participate in the 2019 edition.
As a solo rower, a good team on the side is crucial, says Plasschaert.
Together with his team, they want to complete this adventure and raise money for the Plastic Soup Foundation.
The Plastic Soup Foundation wishes Carl every success!
